    A pretty quaking grass with tidy mounds of soft glaucous leaves with handsome white edges and striping. In Summer, dainty wands of little dancing lockets are produced which sway in the breeze. Green-white at first and often tinged with pink, the seed heads become golden with age. Semi-evergreen clumps of leaves. Not a very long lived plant but careful regular division can extend its life. Seedlings do not come true. 50-70cm in flower, 30cm in leaf.

The exact colour of the leaves can vary according to temperature and age of the plant. Flowers pale lavender on leafy glaucous scape 30" high. A possible sport of H.fortunei 'Hyacinthina' (J.     Lamium maculatum 'Pink Pewter'. Just the plant to bring a bit of life into a troublesome dry spot in the garden with its easy habit and lovely richly silvered foliage. Flowers are a rich pink. Useful for ground cover in a wide range of soil and light conditions, growing in all but the wettest conditions and excelling in dry shade .The silvering on the leaves of these plants is caused by air filled blisters just below the surface.

    This a very tall and slender solomon's seal growing anything from 1 to 3m in height. The willowy stems are whorled with narrow leaves with curling tips. Below these come clusters of small bells. Whilst some strains come with rich red-pink flowers, our strain is a much more muted white with flared petals with purple edges. In the wild this plant can be found in forests and rocky slopes growing in shady situtions at altitudes of 700m up to 3600m. It is found in E.China down through Myanmar to Vietnam. It was named honor of Captain Phillip Parker King, 19th century surveyor of the Australian coastline. Flowers March-May.

    The leaves are sea-green, very like the leaves of our native Rowan in shape, with delicately crimped edges picked out in a bright cream. It isn't an in-your-face variegation, its just enough to pick out the leaf shape and lighten the foliage effect. The cone-like flower heads are carried on stiff widely branched stems standing up to 6ft tall Each one is 3cm long, consisting of dozens of tiny burgundy flowers. Ruddy brown stems add to the whole effect.

Dorset Perennials – plants direct from the heart of Dorset.

At Dorset Perennials you will find a husband and wife team, Dawn and Martin, who have been plantsmen and nurserymen for nearly 25 years. Our nursery, situated in the North of Dorset close to the Somerset border, is full of the plants we love. There’s no overall theme, just an eclectic mix of perennials that, for one reason or another, we consider well worth growing. We have plants for shade, plants for sun, plants for wildlife and a few more just because. In short all the perennials you would ever need to make a garden full of colour throughout the year and full of the plants you need to make it hum with wildlife. We’ve tried to make this website full of inspirational colour and easy to use. The shop page has a nifty plant selector sidebar which can be used to filter our plants by size, colour season and so forth to help you quickly pin down the right plant for a particular spot. We’ve added picture pages showing plant associations to inspire you, or if you need a little advice just give us a call.
