Easy and reliable, 90cm and spreading (but not too much). Native to Afghanistan through the Indian subcontinent and China. Non-invasive.

Persicaria campanulata

I’ll admit, this is never going to be the belle of the ball. However, if you want a plant to colonise a little cool moist shade and produce an endless supply of elegant branching heads of little pink bells, then this is the plant for you. Easy and reliable, 90cm and spreading (but not too much).

 

Polygonum derives from the Greek ‘poly’ = many and ‘gonu’ = joint, alluding to the swollen nodes on the stems. Polygonum bistortum – Bistort, Snakeweed (possibly because of the twisted rhizome), Easter Ledges
