The innermost 3 petals have all the vibrancy of a tropical fish, being golden yellow with flecks of deepest beetroot guiding the bees to its rosy throat. A showy border plant thriving in moisture retentive, free draining rich soil in sun or part shade. Mulch well to ensure survival in harsh Winters. Compact mound 60-70cm. June to October. Bred in France by Ernst Turc for long flowering and good performance as a cut flower.

    Primula veris 'Sunset Shades' (red cowslip). Cowslips with party dresses. It is likely that these cowslips share some of their genes with red flowered polyanthus and although still typically cowslip shaped, they are larger flowered, more flambouyant plants with flowers in shades of red and orange. They make super garden plants enjoying the same conditions as P.veris: they need to see the sun but without drying out in summer and flower in April to June.

Dorset Perennials – plants direct from the heart of Dorset.

At Dorset Perennials you will find a husband and wife team, Dawn and Martin, who have been plantsmen and nurserymen for nearly 25 years. Our nursery, situated in the North of Dorset close to the Somerset border, is full of the plants we love. There’s no overall theme, just an eclectic mix of perennials that, for one reason or another, we consider well worth growing. We have plants for shade, plants for sun, plants for wildlife and a few more just because. In short all the perennials you would ever need to make a garden full of colour throughout the year and full of the plants you need to make it hum with wildlife. We’ve tried to make this website full of inspirational colour and easy to use. The shop page has a nifty plant selector sidebar which can be used to filter our plants by size, colour season and so forth to help you quickly pin down the right plant for a particular spot. We’ve added picture pages showing plant associations to inspire you, or if you need a little advice just give us a call.
