Don't be confused by the name of this Geranium, it is named after a house, not one of it's characteristics. The flowers are some of the darkest of the group, being a rich pinky purple at the centre fading out towards pink at the edge with a white edge. Strong bee lines complete the design. Not quite as striking as Blueberry Ice, but still very nice indeed. Good for growing in dry shady situations where many plants would struggle. Raised by repeated selection of seedling forms by Lionel Bacon, past President of the Alpine Garden Society. Named after his garden.

A really nice very dark-leaved G.pratense with white flowers heavily rayed in lavender. The flowers aren't startling white as you find in say a G.sanguineum Album, largely owing to the influence of the veins, an influence that can be quite pronounced at some times of day. The handsome deeply divided foliage is dark purple on dark purple stems in a shortish 30cm mound. Best in full sun, but not too dry, or in more shade if you don't mind the foliage developing more green. like all G,pratense it is prone to mildew after flowering and is best trimmed then to rejuvenate. 35cm high by 45cm wide. Geranium pratense Victor Reiter Strain. Stunning new cultivar with leaves of a striking purple-black above which deep purple saucer shaped blooms are proudly displayed. Place in a prominent position where the unusual many fingered leaves will always provoke comment. Not as high as some of the meadow cranesbills. This is the first of the Heliopsis to have flowers with no yellow in at all. They open a fiery red, gradually maturing through orange to a russetty bronze with a darker centre. The display starts in July and continues up until the frosts in October. As an added attraction the foliage is a rich purple-black early in the season, becoming very dark green by mid summer. Great for bees. Heliopsis are known as the Smooth Ox Eye in their native America where they are to be found growing in tall-grass prairies, woodland edges and savannas in the East and Centre of the Country. Medium-Large. H.plantaginea x H.sieboldii. A.Cummings & AHS 1986. We've found this variety to be very tough in the garden, and relatively resistant to slugs despite its soft appearance. The leaves are a simple elegant apple green, long and tapered in shape. As you would expect from a plantaginea cross, the flowers are large and fragrant (with perhaps just a whiff of aniseed?), lilac in bud, opening white.
