If you are looking for something a little darker in a Vinca, then this is where to come. It tends to be quite rangey in growth, with plain green foliage, tinted ochre at times. The flowers are a ruby-violet with a pale ring about the eye.Discount of 25p per plant for quantities of 3 or over

Vinca minor 'La Grave' ('Bowles's Variety'). Vinca minor is the lesser Periwinkle, the smaller of the two species most commonly found. Its makes excellent ground cover in almost any soil short of a bog, growing in sun or shade. The small leaves are a deep rich green and a lovely setting for the pale sky blue flowers which are produced in the Spring. The foliage is a little larger than in 'Gertrude Jekyll'. Each flower is formed from 5 blunt lobes creating a pentagonal outline. Discount of 25p per plant for quantities of 3 or over

a recent introduction from ground cover specialists Helix Pflanzen of Germany. This lovely little variety combines a nice cream edged leaf with pure white flowers. Selected firstly because of its attractive foliage, this variety will quickly make excellent ground cover in most soils, including dry shade. In spring it will be studded with pure white flowers. (I note that the Helix website lists this as 'Evelyn' - no 'e' - but I am going, for no particular reason, with the RHS approved 'Evelyne') Discount of 25p per plant for quantities of 3 or over

An excellent variety with abundant blue flowers a good as 'La Grave' and variegated foliage into the bargain. Possibly a little more compact or tight in growth than some of the other varieties, but despite this a great coverer of the ground. Foliage with a clean bright white edge which it keeps all year.Discount of 25p per plant for quantities of 3 or over

Viola 'Bournemouth Gem' ( violet ). A selection of our native sweet violet bred especially to produce violets for the trade in cut flower posies. The flowers are exceptionally large with an open wide form and are borne on long stems above the partially evergreen foliage. Unfortunately the price of the large flowers is that the scent has been largely lost from this variety, one of the Devon Violets. Back at the turn of last century, the area around Dawlish, Devon was famous for producing violets for the cut flower and perfume trade.  It grows in much more open clumps than Viola odorata and has distinctive veined, heart-shaped leaves which are a litle glossy. Grows in shade or sun. Prefers a moist soil

A strong growing variety with nicely scented flowers held well up on strong rose coloured stems. The flowers are near white with a variable flush of apricot-pink which intensifies to rose madder on the spur. The upper (posterior) petals tend to flare slightly, with the bottom (lateral and anterior) petals closer together creating an overall heart shaped outline. Very pretty. CW Groves and Son

Similar in colour to Sultan but tending more towards magenta with less violet flushing, just violet veining. The flowers are more rounded as well with a strong scent. A strong vigorous variety named after a former seedsman from CW Groves and Son.

A compact variety with quite squat flowers, as wide as they are tall. The flowers are pink to pale pastel lavender with a very neat, well defined set of bee guide lines in the throat making a dark eye. Good scent.

Viola 'Melanie'. (Viola 'Katja'). It's hard to resist the charm ( and perfume ) of the humble viola. But if you are looking for something a bit different, forget papal purple, this Viola is the richest Catholic Bishop Pink you'll come across. Deep and extravagant with a delightful silver edge. It is floriferous, doesn't fade and has an intoxicating fragrance. i couldn't resist it - the colour stands out so zingingly.

Viola 'Rebecca'. Compact hybrid viola with a long flowering season from Spring through Summer. This is one of the lovely Violetta group of violets. They form really tight hummocks of foliage and throughout their long season they are absolutely covered in outward facing pansy-like flowers with a delicious fragrance. Think of them like a perennial pansy that's been to finishing school. Rebecca has a base colour of cream, shaded lemon on the lowest petal with a rich yellow eye. Each petal is then shaded to pale lilac with the edges flecked mauve. Heavily scented. Any good soil

Viola riviniana Purpurea Group ( Viola labradorica ). This is an excellent edging plant, its dark purple leaves forming an excellent foil for its own violet flowers as well as those of many other perennials. It spreads well to cover the ground and I've seen it looking lovely running along the base of a wall and along the edges of a set of stone steps. This is the dark purple leaved form of our native wood violet. It is easily pleased and will grow in sun or shade in a wide range of soil types.
