A superb plant for the edge of a sunny border where its bright rosy-pink flowers will attract your eye and those of all the local butterflies too. Its compact domed bushy habit tops off at 35-40cm and is less likely to break apart and flop like some of its bigger cousins. Originally introduced by Monksilver Nurseries from Cambridgeshire. It has a brighter colour and tighter growing habit than its foreign cousin Autumn Joy (Herbstfreude). It is the first of the border Sedums to flower, beginning in August. Succisella 'Frosted Pearl'. This is Balkan species, a relative of our own native Devil's Bit Scabious, and like it an inhabitant of wet meadows. It flowers earlier than Succisia, usually by early August and tends to be denser and less airy than its British counterpart. 60cm. Deeply incised palmate leaves with the 'fingers' cut 3/4 of the way to the palm. All sections are strongly marked giving the whole leaf the suggestion of a purple black star with green margins. Vinca difformis 'Jenny Pym'. This Vinca grows two sorts of shoots, hence its name difformis. One shoot is long and barren, the other much shorter, upright up to 30cm tall and bears the flowers. These upright shoots are clustered and in this form carry pink flowers with a distinct white central region. Vinca difformis is quite similar to Vinca major in many respects, differing most significantly in its habit of flowering right from Autumn, through mild Winter spells to Spring. We're a bit confused over this one. We bought this plant in micropropagated several years ago as Zantedeschia 'Flamingo', but is less fully pink than we expected. We are not sure if it was supposed to be the plant bred in the Netherlands by The Klaver Brothers, Theo and Kees for the cut flower trade, or another cultivar which vies for the name. Whichever, believe the pictures which show the plant that we have. It has the beautiful chalice form of Zantedeschia but coloured with a lovely soft sugar pink, especially on the outside. It is a vigorous grower that will bloom freely once established and cut beautifully (cut it as the bud opens). 80cm. For a warm sunny spot with access to plenty of moisture. The crowns are best protected with a deep mulch in the early years and otherwise if Winters turn very cold.
