Potsize – 1L

A superbly dark form of the Angel’s Fishing Rods. Slow to establish but well worth the wait as this Dierama produces tall wiry stems up to 4 feet high from which hang the exquisite maroony-purple, flared bells in July and August. The tough strap-like foliage builds up year on year, needing only a Spring tidy to remove old damaged leaves. Dieramas come from sunny South Africa and appreciate summer moisture, though not waterlogged conditions. They do produce deeply delving roots from leathery corms which are able to seek out available moisture. They particularly thrive in gravel gardens or with gritty mulches.

Notable is the way that the flowers open from the base to the tip of the stem. Although they hail form damp grassland – they resent drying out – They look at their best arching over water. They are slow to establish and resent disturbance, but don’t let that put you off – they are well worth the effort.
