Potsize – 1L
This is the most striking of plants. The flowers are the very brightest of cardinal reds with sharply contrasting white nectar guides on the lower petals. It is sadly close to extinction in the wild in South Africa, where it was formerly to be found growing at the bases of waterfalls and on wet cliffs. It needs good moisture when in growth, but combined with good drainage. I have read it likes a little shade, but I think that refers to hotter climates than in th UK, so give it good sun. It starts into growth very early, sometimes too early, and can be frosted off in the open garden. It may be best to lift bulbs in Autumn and grow them under cover until it is safe to plant them out again next Spring where they will go on to flower in late Summer. 60cm
